Key Chelsea star back in training ahead of FA Cup tie vs Barnsley

Christian Pulisic back in Chelsea training ahead of Barnsley FA Cup tie

According to the Metro, Christian Pulisic has returned to training with Chelsea ahead of the club’s trip to Oakwell for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Barnsley on Thursday evening.

The United States international took part in the Blues’ training session on Tuesday after missing the 2-1 win over Sheffield United due to personal issues. Manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Pulisic had some family problems to sort out and was therefore given a rest for the previous game.

The 22-year-old is expected to be available for selection when Chelsea face the Championship outfit away from home in the midweek fixture. Besides Pulisic, Timo Werner was also pictured in training after being forced off the pitch with a dead leg in the win over Sheffield United.

It remains to be seen whether Werner is handed a start for the cup fixture or Tuchel decides to keep him fresh for the home game against Newcastle United on Monday. Kai Havertz wasn’t a part of the training session while Thiago Silva was another notable absentee. (h/t Metro)

Pulisic is yet to hit top gear this season, partly due to his struggles with injuries. The talented youngster has started only 9 times in the PL while appearing as a substitute on a further six occasions. He has only contributed with a goal and an assist so far.

The former Borussia Dortmund starlet enjoyed a brilliant debut season at Stamford Bridge last term despite missing several games with injuries. Pulisic was one of the standout performers for the Blues, amassing 9 goals and 4 assists from just 19 league starts in the previous campaign.
