Thomas Tuchel provides injury update on Chelsea star Thiago Silva

According to the Metro, Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on the condition of injured Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.

The 36-year-old picked up a thigh injury in the game against Tottenham Hotspur last week. Following that, the Brazilian missed the game against Sheffield United on Sunday night.

Now, providing an update on the condition of the former PSG superstar, Tuchel has claimed that Silva is aiming to return to the fray in time for our Premier League clash against Southampton on February 20.

“For Thiago, we are fighting every day. He will be for sure out for the FA Cup, so it will take us some time, it will take several days.We set the goal, maybe Southampton is realistic, but it is very ambitious.”

That means that the veteran centre-back is set to miss out for our FA Cup fifth-round clash against Barnsley on Thursday night as well as the Premier League game against Newcastle United next Monday.

In Silva’s absence, Andreas Christensen started for Chelsea against Sheffield United at the Bramall Lane on Sunday. The Dane, who has been out of favour this term, put in a solid shift against the likes of Oliver McBurnie and Oliver Burke on the night.

Silva arrived at Chelsea in the summer on a free transfer from PSG. The 36-year-old has immediately become a pivotal figure at the heart of the Blues defence.

So, Silva getting sidelined with an injury, was always going to be a concern. However, Christensen put in a reliable display on Sunday. Furthermore, Kurt Zouma is back to full fitness again and was on the bench against the Blades.

So, Tuchel and Chelsea should be able to cope without the Brazilian star over the next week or so.
