Billy Gilmour to stay at Chelsea after impressing Thomas Tuchel in training
According to Evening Standard, Scottish wonderkid Billy Gilmour is set to stay on at Chelsea after impressing Thomas Tuchel in training.
The 19-year-old was linked with a move away on loan. Gilmour is keen to make the Scotland squad for Euro 2021 and is seeking regular game time.
He was not short of suitors either, with Southampton amongst those linked with securing him on loan.
Tuchel left the youngster out of his first two matchday squads against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley. Tuchel also indicated that he was unsure if Gilmour had the physicality to succeed in the Premier League. This appeared to indicate that the player’s immediate future lay elsewhere.
But what he could not show in a match, Gilmour appears to have done so in training. The 19-year-old appears to have impressed the German boss in training, leading to a change of heart.
Gilmour is not the only player to secure his future at the club for the second half of the season.
The likes of Marcos Alonso, Olivier Giroud, and Tino Anjorin are all set to stay on at the club. With Tuchel’s appointment giving players a clean slate, they now have an opportunity to prove they have a future at the club.
As things stand it would appear the Blues will not be engaged in any major deals in the remaining hours of the window.
