According to the Mirror, Wolves have dropped their interest in Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
The 34-year-old has continued to bely his years by averaging a goal every ninety minutes of action this season. In fact, he has the best strike rate of Chelsea’s strikers that also includes Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner. (h/t BBC)
The Frenchman has now stepped up when needed for the second consecutive season. With him closing in on Thierry Henry’s scoring record for France, Giroud looks to have a few more years left in him.
Having lost Raul Jimenez to a fractured skull, Nuno Espirito Santo was keen to bring in a striker this January. Understandably, Giroud featured on the list. That plan, however, has now been pulled down.
The club’s owners are unwilling to spend heavily this month after investing over £70m in the last window. This should mean good news for Chelsea who can keep their striker focussed and ready.
More so, with the Mexican ace now back in training, Wolves may not need to bring in a new player at all.
Giroud is in the last year of his contract which is set to expire in the upcoming summer. The 34-year-old, however, has no plans to leave Stamford Bridge in the immediate future. He also revealed there is a one-year option in his deal to extend his stay. (h/t Football.london)
Giroud went on to add that a decision will be made at the end of the season. He remains ambitious and has faith that the Chelsea squad will help him attain his objectives. Whether this hints at a successful departure in the summer remains to be seen.
Signed from Arsenal in 2018, Giroud has proven to be a dependable player. He has so far made 104 appearances for the Blues scoring 37 goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
