Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), striker Olivier Giroud said that he is not thinking too much about the transfer window and his focus remains at Chelsea.
The 34-year-old had a slow start to the season as he played back-up to Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham. However, he saw much more action with the first-team in December 2020.
The striker scored 7 of his 9 goals in that month, including three in the Premier League. His tally of 9 goals this season is much more impressive considering he has started in only 5 matches.
This has led to the former Arsenal striker boasting of a goal every 63 minutes this season. Speaking about this impressive statistic, Giroud shed light on the fact that he is the ‘happiest’ when playing.
“Obviously, I am very happy with these numbers. I am the happiest man when I am on the pitch.”
The World Cup winner did not explicitly deny the possibility of a move away from Stamford Bridge but said that he remains focused at his current club.
“We will see what happens in the next few months but I just want to keep my efficiency high… I will just carry on like this and try to keep it up.”
Giroud expressed that he wants to help the team even when he is off the pitch and that he is hopeful of winning something with this Chelsea squad.
Recently, Olivier Giroud has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. La Liga club Atletico Madrid were recently linked with the player. (h/t Football.london)
Amidst such rumours, Chelsea should realise the importance of Giroud if they don’t already. He has scored at a very high rate and convincing him to stay at the end of this window would be great thinking by the club.
