Chelsea open talks with two veteran stars over new Stamford Bridge contract

Thiago Silva and Jorginho in line for a new contract at Chelsea

A report by Italian outlet Sportitalia (h/t Daily Mail) states that Chelsea are primed to offer a new contract to Italian midfielder Jorginho and Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

The club signed Jorginho in 2018 with fellow Italian Maurizio Sarri at the helm back. He signed a 5-year deal then, and his contract with the Blues will run out in 2023.

The 29-year-old is in line to receive a two-year extension which will see his stay at Stamford Bridge extended to 2025. New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a fan of the player himself.

He tried to sign him as the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, but to no avail. Jorginho’s teammate Thiago Silva is another player the Blues are looking to keep at the club beyond his current contract. (h/t Daily Mail)

Tuchel likes both Silva and Jorginho

Frank Lampard signed the 36-year-old from Thomas Tuchel’s PSG last summer as a free agent. The Brazilian signed a one-year deal, which means his stay at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in the summer of 2022.

But with the report stating that the club wants to offer him a new contract, the Brazil international could see him playing in London until he is 38 years old.

Thiago Silva called Tuchel’s sacking at PSG “predictable”, which led many to believe that the two might fall out at Chelsea on their re-union. That, however, has not happened.
