Mason Mount tipped to become future Chelsea captain by Jamie Redknapp
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), former Premier League star turned pundit Jamie Redknapp has tipped Mason Mount to become the Chelsea club captain in the future.
A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Mount had to bide his time to get a look-in into the first-team at the Bridge. After loan spells away at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County, the latter under Frank Lampard, the midfielder got his big break last season.
And, Mount has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, and has grown into becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old produced a tally of eight goals and six assists in the 2019/20 season.
Mount has continued in the same vein of form this term as well, already registering three goals and six assists in 26 matches in all competitions, missing just two games for us all season.
Despite the team struggling, Mount has been able to impress, showing drive and desire in the middle of the park. And Redknapp believes that the 22-year-old has what it takes to become a future Chelsea captain.
“He’s the first name on the [Chelsea] team sheet to a certain extent, because of what he does off the ball. There’s talk that in a couple of years he could be the Chelsea captain and he’s got that look about him. He’s the sort of player who isn’t fazed by any occasion.”
