Team News: Lampard confirms triple blow for Chelsea ahead of FA Cup clash against Morecambe

Chelsea to take on Morecambe sans three key players

According to Football.london, Chelsea will be without three players going into the FA Cup third-round clash against Morecambe.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that Reece James, Andreas Christensen, and N’Golo Kante will all miss the visit of the Shrimps to the Bridge on Sunday.

While it is debatable if all three players would have featured, not having them available robs Lampard of a few options.

“Reece James is out for the game. He will train with us tomorrow but the game will come too early. Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante, too.”

James has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem. He was unlikely to be involved anyway at the weekend. In hindsight, playing him against Arsenal was not the best choice.

Christensen meanwhile is recovering from a knee injury he sustained in training. With the likes of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva ahead of him in the pecking order, the Dane could have been in contention to start this weekend.

His absence could pave the way for Fikayo Tomori to make his way back into Lampard’s plans. The youngster appeared to be on his way out on loan but now is expected to stay put. (h/t Metro)

Not lacking for options!

Kante, meanwhile, misses out with a hamstring issue. The Frenchman received his fifth yellow card of the season against Manchester City, meaning he will also miss our Premier League match against Fulham.

“Kante has a minor hamstring injury so will miss this game and is suspended for Fulham next Friday so we’ll get him right.”

With him out, Billy Gilmour could be set for a return to the starting XI.

Despite the absences, Chelsea have enough in their locker to put the League Two side to the sword. Anything less than a win will make Lampard’s situation much harder than it already is.
