Safe for now – Chelsea to retain faith in Lampard despite poor run of form

Chelsea to retain faith in Frank Lampard despite recent struggles

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Chelsea have no succession plan in place for under-fire manager Frank Lampard.

The Blues have won just one of their last six Premier League games, losing four in the process. This has seen us fall behind our rivals in the title race.

Chelsea fell 3-1 to Manchester City at the weekend. The scoreline, in all honesty, flattered us and could have been so much worse.

This has led to speculation that the club could bring in either Thomas Tuchel or Max Allegri to take over the Stamford Bridge hot seat. However, it would appear that the club retain faith in Lampard.

The Blues have no intention of replacing the club legend and there is no succession plan being drawn up. According to the report, Lampard will be given the time he needs to turn things around.

Having taken over the club in 2019, Lampard did well to ensure we finished in the top four last season. Given the loss of Eden Hazard and the transfer ban, it was no mean feat.

This summer, however, he has been backed to the hilt with a number of high-profile stars making their way to the Bridge. While Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have thrived, the rest of our signings have either impressed in part or not at all.

Time running out?

It seems only fair that Lampard is given time to turn around the club’s fortunes. However, given Roman Abramovich’s trigger happy nature, how much time Lampard will receive remains to be seen.

While being a club legend could give Lampard some leeway, results on the pitch will need to pick up. The Chelsea manager now faces a pivotal second half of the season in charge.
