Chelsea ace names veteran star as club’s best finisher as summer signing’s misery continues

Christian Pulisic believes Olivier Giroud is the best finisher at Chelsea

Speaking on a Fans Q&A on Sky Sports’ YouTube account (h/t Football.london), Christian Pulisic claimed that Olivier Giroud is the best finisher at Chelsea, ignoring the club’s star summer recruit, Timo Werner.

To be fair, the American winger had no shortage of options to choose from. The club has an impressive attacking line which was boosted in the summer window.

Chelsea signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz to add to Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Christian Pulisic himself at the club.

The incoming summer trio cost Chelsea over £150million. However, Pulisic did not choose from them when asked who the best finisher at Chelsea was. The winger went with Olivier Giroud.

“I would have to go with Olivier Giroud. Lethal finisher.”

Pulisic went on to add what he thinks is the 34-year-old’s strengths.

“Especially first time, on the volley. He just always gets clean contact on the ball and he’s definitely really strong in front of goal.”

The answer comes at a time when there is already debate about who Chelsea’s best striker is. The Blues signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Despite a good start to the season, the German is now without a goal in his last 11 matches for Chelsea. Giroud, on the other hand, scored 7 goals for Chelsea in December despite starting just 5 games.

Earlier this week, Werner was dropped from the starting line-up for the first time in the league this season. The German was a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Monday.
