“He did very well” – Young Chelsea star heaps the praise on impactful teammate after Arsenal shocker

Mason Mount praises Callum Hudson-Odoi after Arsenal loss and asks Chelsea to respond

Speaking on the official Chelsea website (h/t Metro), Mason Mount praised Callum Hudson-Odoi in the loss against Arsenal but asked his teammates to respond against Aston Villa.

Chelsea succumbed to a shock 3-1 defeat against Arsenal this weekend. Frank Lampard looked dire and switched on only after the Gunners took a 3-0 lead in the 56th minute.

After being 2-0 down at half-time, Frank Lampard brought on Callum Hudson-Odoi for the misfiring Timo Werner. The 20-year-old winger returned to league action for the first time since late November.

Callum Hudson-Odoi recently returned from a hamstring injury but is now back in action.

He was heavily involved in everything Chelsea did going forward and found Tammy Abraham in the 85th minute to set up the Blues’ consolation goal.

Speaking after the match, midfielder Mason Mount was critical of the team’s performance. Mount highlighted that Chelsea started slowly and their performance was not good enough for a “big club”.

A silver lining

However, he did find one silver lining as he praised Hudson-Odoi for his performance in the second half.

“He did very well when he came on and that is something he can take away from the game.”

Mount highlighted how the team knows they can rely on the 20-year-old winger to take the creative onus upon himself and make things happen, as he did against Arsenal.

“He’s very good 1-on-1 and we just have to get him the ball going one on one and try to create chances.”

Chelsea face Aston Villa tonight and Mount thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to bounce back, despite the Blues having just 48 hours of rest since the derby against Arsenal.

He says that the team has “big players” who can step up their performances and really make a statement by turning their fortunes around against Aston Villa. (h/t Metro)
