Lampard makes 20-year-old Bundesliga star his top target for Chelsea

Chelsea make Erling Haaland their priority summer signing

A report by Sky Italia (h/t Daily Mail) states that Chelsea have stepped up their interest in a summer move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland.

Haaland is one of the most sought-after talents in world football as he has continued to impress in the Bundesliga. The youngster, only 20 years old, has already amassed nearly 100 senior goals.

This has prompted Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to ask the Chelsea board to make Erling Haaland a priority target. The news comes after Chelsea only recently splashed £53million on German striker Timo Werner.

However, Werner has found life difficult in the Premier League and now Lampard wants the club to step up their pursuit of the Norwegian striker.

Haaland has impressed since his move to Borussia Dortmund. He has 17 goals already this season and has attracted interest from several top clubs.

Chelsea, thus, will not be the only Premier League team interested in his signature. It is reported that Manchester United as well as Manchester City, for whom Erling’s father Alf-Inge played, are also keen on the transfer.

Apart from the Premier League clubs, Chelsea are also likely to face competition from other elite European clubs. German giants Bayern Munich, as well as Real Madrid, have also shown interest in Haaland. (h/t Daily Mail)

It has been reported that Erling Haaland might have a £65million release clause in his contract. The supposed release clause will become active only in 2022.

However, there have been no comments from Borussia Dortmund regarding this matter. On paper, Chelsea have three very good strikers in Olivier Giroud, Timo Werner, and Tammy Abraham.

Such an attacking roster shows no urgency for the club to push for an expensive striker. But it is understandable why Lampard would want to make an exception for a talented young striker like Haaland.
