“Didn’t get the rub of the green” – Lampard believes Chelsea deserved more against Villa

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea didn’t get the luck they deserved against Aston Villa

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes his side did not get the luck they deserved in the game against Aston Villa.

The Blues boss made six changes to the team that fell to Arsenal at the weekend. What followed was a much better performance brimming with intent and purpose.

Olivier Giroud put the Blues ahead in the first half before Anwer El Ghazi brought the Villans level after the break.

“In terms of performance. We started really well, Villa had their moments but we dealt with them.”

Chelsea veteran Cesar Azpilicueta thought he had scored, only for the goal to be ruled out. The Blues had a number of chances, including a Ben Chilwell strike that went agonizingly close in stoppage-time.

“When you’re in a tough moment sometimes things don’t quite go for you. A month ago we win that. We have to fight through it.”

While it may be argued that Chelsea dropped two points, the performance was something to write home about. Lampard who blasted his team for their lack of effort against Arsenal also admitted as such.

“I can’t ask for more from the players today. No one let me down, everyone worked hard, we didn’t get the rub of the green.”

Edouard Mendy should have done betetr for Aston Villa’s equalizer

Chelsea are now sixth in the table, trailing Liverpool by six points having played a game more. While it isn’t an ideal situation to be in, we have stayed within touching distance.

One win in four games had taken the steam out of our Premier League title charge. Hopefully, the performance against Villa is a sign of better things to come.

Lampard also admitted that Villa got away with a handball in the build-up to their equaliser. While it was admittedly a contentious decision, the fact that we did not fold and responded by looking for a winner speaks volumes of our character.

With no new fixtures left this year, the Blues will hope for better fortune going into 2021.
