Chelsea join Man United in the race to sign £4.5m South American starlet

Chelsea the latest club to show interest in Moises Caicedo after Manchester United

A report by Daily Mail mentions that Chelsea have joined several other Premier League clubs including Manchester United in the race to sign highly-rated midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo is already an Ecuadorian international with 4 full caps at the age of just 19. He currently plays in his home country’s league for Independiente del Valle.

Chelsea have now shown interest and talked with intermediaries to submit a bid. This comes after reports that a £4.5m move to Manchester United was close to completion for the Ecuadorian.

However, Chelsea have scouted the player and are now ready to rival other Premier League clubs including Manchester United for his signature. The Blues and the Red Devils are also not the only clubs interested in him.

Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion are also interested in the 19-year-old, who has netted once for his national team in 4 outings. (h/t Daily Mail)

Since joining Independiente del Valle at the beginning of this year, Caicedo has raked in impressive statistics. The central midfielder has made 28 appearances for the club and has 6 goals and 2 assists to his name.

A deal for a highly-rated youngster like Caicedo can only benefit Chelsea. The Blues have no immediate shortage of midfielders, but Caicedo could be more of a long-term signing.

It is no coincidence that 4 Premier League teams are interested in signing the youngster. But, that also means Chelsea will have to step up in their pursuit of the 19-year-old.

With N’Golo Kante, Matteo Kovacic, and Jorginho sharing a majority of the starts in Lampard’s central midfield amongst themselves, Caicedo might not slot in the Blues midfield straight away.
