Chelsea among top-flight clubs keen on Reading star Michael Olise

According to The Sun (h/t Football.london), Chelsea is among a host of clubs keeping tabs on Reading midfielder Michael Olise.

The 19-year-old Olise spent short spells at the Chelsea and Manchester City youth academies before joining the Royals’ setup in 2016. A versatile attacking midfielder, Olise broke into the Reading first team in 2019.

The youngster has come into his own this season and is emerging as an important player for the Royals. Olise has so far featured 21 times across all competitions this season, racking up a return of four goals and seven assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

His performances have caught the attention of a number of top-flight sides including Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Leeds United. (h/t Football.london)

The Foxes meanwhile appear to be the ones showing the most interest and are ready to make a move for Olise. With just 18 months left on his current deal, Reading may need to make a decision sooner or later.

Continental teams too have been linked with Olise in the past. The likes of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco are all aware of the youngster’s abilities. (h/t Football.london)

It was reported earlier that the attacking midfielder had a release clause of a paltry £8m in his current contract. Procuring a player of his potential at that price can be considered a steal.

Reading for their part are keen to keep the youngster and have contract negotiations planned in the new year. Whether Olise will agree to stay on or seek pastures remains to be seen.

Olise joins the ranks of a number of players who spent time at the Chelsea academy before going on to make it elsewhere.

It would appear Declan Rice is not the only former player we are keen to bring back to Stamford Bridge.
