According to The Metro, former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has paid tribute to Olivier Giroud after his heroics against Sevilla.
The 34-year-old scored all four goals in an impressive 4-0 win. This saw Chelsea guarantee top spot in their Champions League group with a match to spare.
The Frenchman also broke the record for being the oldest hat-trick getter in the competition. It was earlier held by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fabregas has termed Giroud a real pro as the Frenchman continues to impress despite his advanced age. With the European championships coming next summer, the striker’s purple patch has come at the right time.
He believes Giroud is an excellent role model who younger players should aspire to replicate. A player who has often gone underrated, he does his talking on the pitch.
The player for his part is satisfied with the performance and is glad to have scored four goals. In the same week where Anthony Martial showcased his profligacy, Giroud’s performances will have pleased Didier Deschamps.
“When you win 4-0 in a Champions League away game it’s always a great feeling and a good performance from the team.”
It is heartening to see Giroud’s efforts pay off. The veteran has stepped up when needed and looks to be doing so once again.
With top spot in the group secured, Lampard can afford to play fringe players in the last game against Krasnodar. Given the busy December schedule, the opportunity to rest key players will be a godsend.
