Frank Lampard sends a stern message to Chelsea stars after Arsenal humbling
Speaking to TalkSport (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard left no stone unturned after his side fell to Arsenal at the Emirates.
The Blues went into the game as heavy favourites given Arsenal’s poor run of form and weak line-up. However, Lampard’s players failed to put up a fight and ended up losing 3-1.
Rather than make excuses, Lampard owned up to the poor first-half performance. He believes his side failed to get the basics right in the match.
“I can’t defend the first half because they lacked the basics of football.”
Lampard went on to add that the players were already informed of the challenge the London derby presents. A hotly contested fixture, the form guide usually counts for little.
The Blues boss believes the players have no one but themselves to blame for what was an extraordinarily poor first half.
“The players have to take responsibility for that first half.”
Lampard also went on to brand his players lazy. We can sympathize with the manager given how poor the performance was last night.
“We were lazy to give away a penalty, lazy to give away a free-kick that Xhaka puts in the top corner and I am very, very disappointed in the way we approached the first half because some things in football are basics.”

While it can be argued that the penalty given against us was probably harsh, the better team won on the night. The team Chelsea put out on the night was definitely good enough to get the job done and some players will have to analyse their own failings.
