Chelsea could sell 20-year-old starlet to ease Lampard’s frustration

Callum Hudson-Odoi could leave Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to trim their squad

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), transfer expert Ian McGarry said that Chelsea are willing to sell Callum Hudson-Odoi as a way to reduce their squad size.

Frank Lampard is said to be frustrated with the bloated Chelsea squad and Chelsea could part ways with the 20-year-old winger in order to assist Lampard.

Hudson-Odoi is currently recovering from a hamstring injury. He has started in just one Premier League game so far, which was the 4-0 home win against Crystal Palace.

The English winger has gone down the pecking order in recent months. Chelsea saw Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz arrive in their squad just this summer. (h/t Express)

Hudson-Odoi only just signed a new contract with Chelsea. He put pen to paper on a 5-year deal in September 2019 with Bayern Munich lurking in the background.

However, McGarry mentions that there is an overload of attacking options at Chelsea. Hudson-Odoi is one name that is being tipped to make way for a fee of up to £40million.

Hudson-Odoi had 4 goals and 7 assists last year for Chelsea in 35 appearances and has been a vital part of the Blues team in the past couple of seasons. (h/t transfermarkt)

However, he is failing to find the same level of consistency recently. This is largely due to an array of injuries he has suffered since he first ruptured his Achilles back in April 2019.

More Chelsea News:

Hudson-Odoi is one of the most promising exciting talents in the Premier League. Losing him could leave Lampard without cover on the left wing.

Moreover, he is just 20 and has plenty of years to reach his full potential. Chelsea should be careful, or we may live to rue our decision.
