PL rivals keen on securing Chelsea veteran star in January

West Ham United retain interest in Chelsea star Olivier Giroud

According to The Mirror, West Ham United are keeping tabs on Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud heading into the January transfer window.

The Hammers are keen to bring in a striker and have earmarked the Blues star as a viable option.

Giroud is not averse to leaving Chelsea if it guarantees him enough playing time going into next summer’s European championships. With Sebastian Haller failing to impress and Michail Antonio struggling with fitness, Giroud can lay claim to regular minutes at the London Stadium.

Frank Lampard meanwhile would not be too happy about losing his in-form striker. With Timo Werner struggling and Tammy Abraham a tad inconsistent, Giroud has often stepped up and delivered when needed.

With the season yet to reach its halfway stage, the Blues will need all the help they can get to achieve glory this campaign.

A January switch would at the very least assure Chelsea recoup a transfer fee for the Frenchman. With his deal up in the summer, he could potentially leave us for free at the end of the season.

Giroud is a dependable striker

West Ham are keen to sell players including winger Andriy Yarmalenko to raise funds for a striker. Having started the season well, they are keen to ensure the hard work done so far is not wasted.

Despite his age, Lampard views Giroud as a key member of the Chelsea squad. There aren’t many dependable backup strikers who consistently impress like the 34-year-old. (h/t Daily Mail)
