Injury News: Chelsea star Ben Chilwell a doubt to face Arsenal

According to the Metro, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Ben Chilwell is a doubt for our Premier League clash against Arsenal.

The English international lasted just 10 minutes against West Ham United and was forced off injured. This after the 24-year-old landed awkwardly after a clash with Hammers winger Jarrod Bowen.

Chilwell has been amongst the best left-backs in the league this season. Hopefully, he is not seriously injured.

“I expect he will be doubtful for Arsenal.”

Lampard went on to add that Chilwell turned his ankle and will undergo a scan on Tuesday. Given his importance to the team, maybe it is better if we do not risk him against the Gunners.

“He turned his ankle, we will have a scan tomorrow.”

Chilwell arrived from Leicester City in the summer transfer window. While he has been impressive when fit, injuries have proven to be a destabilizing factor this season.

Chilwell’s injury coincides with the absence of first-choice right-back Reece James. The duo was amongst the club’s most impressive players this season and their absence will be felt.

James underwent a knee scan on Saturday and could potentially need surgery. With games coming thick and fast, Lampard has a challenge on his hands to replace two of his top players for the busy festive schedule.

Chilwell’s absence saw Emerson Palmieri get a rare appearance for the Blues. The Italian has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge in January.

It remains to be seen if Chilwell’s situation will determine whether the player will stay on or leave the club next month.
