Blow for Chelsea as they discover the impact of key English star’s ankle twist

Ben Chilwell ruled out of action until 2021 due to ankle injury

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea will be without star left-back Ben Chilwell for two weeks as the Englishman is ruled out until 2021 with an ankle injury.

The English international was taken off after colliding with Jarrod Bowen in our 3-0 win over West Ham United on Monday.

Chilwell rolled his ankle and received treatment from the Blues’ medical team. Despite his best efforts, he wasn’t able to continue, and was taken off.

Having undergone a scan, Chelsea have now discovered the extent of Chilwell’s injury. Thankfully, the results did not reveal a break or any signs of serious harm to Chilwell’s ankle.

There could however be some minor damage to the ligaments. There is hope that the 24-year-old can return to action in two weeks.

Chilwell’s absence will hit Chelsea during what is a typically busy time of the season in the English football calendar. The defender will miss our next three Premier League clashes against Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Manchester City.

There is however better news regarding Reece James. The Chelsea right-back missed the win over West Ham with a knee injury.

According to The Athletic, surgery is seen as a last resort. The Blues now plan to rest James for a few games and could be without both of their first-choice full-backs for the festive period.
