There was a moment of fear when Chelsea star Ben Chilwell went down in the second half of the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
The defender received treatment on the field and was thankfully able to continue in what was a goalless stalemate.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the defender has since admitted that he is fine and is thankful he could shrug it off.
“I was desperate to carry on and thankfully I ran it off.”
Having arrived this summer from Leicester City nursing an injury, Chilwell has been privy to more since becoming a Blue. Thankfully, this does not appear to be one of them.
With the Spurs match behind him, Chilwell is now looking ahead to playing midweek against Sevilla in the Champions League.
“It’s fine now so I’m just looking forward to recovering and hopefully playing again in midweek.”
The English international has been an excellent addition to an ever-improving Chelsea backline. The 23-year-old’s arrival once and for all put aside the debate of the left-back spot being a weakness.
He has since looked comfortable playing down the flank, offering both attacking ingenuity and defensive solidity.
Chelsea have already secured their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League. With progress guaranteed, the match against Sevilla will likely determine who finishes on top of the group.
It remains to be seen if Frank lamaprd will give his left-back a breather for this game.
