According to German publication Kicker (h/t Football.london), Chelsea remain interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.
The 26-year-old German international enjoyed an excellent season for Die Fohlen last time around. He played a crucial role as Gladbach finished in the top four and qualified for this season’s Champions League.
We were linked with a move for the player earlier in the summer. He, however, chose to stay at Gladbach.
The 26-year-old has carried his good form into the new season as well. He has featured in all of Gladbbach’s matches so far and even scored the winner against Mainz last week.
This has seen Chelsea retain their interest in Ginter. According to the report, they could make a move to land him in January.
Having joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Ginter has gone from strength to strength at Gladbach.
Chelsea have undergone somewhat of a renaissance in defence in the last few matches. The back five have held their shape and new signings Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell have all fitted in well.
Silva, meanwhile, is not getting any younger. At 36, he is not a long-term option and Chelsea looking at Ginter is understandable.
A full German international, Ginter has made 33 appearances for the national side. He has scored two goals during this time.
Chelsea have made a number of excellent signings in recent windows. Ginter would be another key addition to our young and promising line-up.
