[Not Barkley] Chelsea loanee suffers an injury as PL rivals suffer yet another loss

Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu injured while playing for Sheffield United

According to Wales Online, Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu has suffered an injury as Sheffield United lost to West Ham United.

The same was confirmed by Blades boss Chris Wilder. Ampadu came off in the second half with what looked like a hip problem.

“He’s come off with an injury, too early to assess.”

As of yet, there is no update on the severity of the injury. Hopefully, he will not be out for long and will return to action for the Blades.

The matchup saw Ampadu go up against a major Chelsea transfer target, Declan Rice. While the former put up a good display, the latter showed why he is so highly rated.

The Hammers star ran the show and continued from where he left off for England against Iceland. He is maturing into an excellent player who has the potential to be world-class.

The matchup between Ampadu and Rice did not go unwitnessed by Chelsea fans. It can however be argued that the jury is still out on who they prefer back at the Bridge.

Ampadu is enjoying a better time at Sheffield compared to his previous loan spell at RB Leipzig. The 20-year-old has so far made five appearances for a struggling Sheffield United side.

With his development having stalled while at Germany, the switch clsoer to home could help him get back on track.

He is also held in high regard by Wales boss Ryan Giggs. The former Manchester Untied star had earlier stated that he hopes Ampadu gets more playing time this season.

Ampadu joined Chelsea from Exeter as a 16-year-old prospect. He made 12 appearances for the Blues in his first two years before being allowed to leave on loan.

While Sheffield United’s future is far from certain, Ampadu will hopefully make the most of his time at Bramall Lane.
