Philippe Coutinho opens up on future amidst Chelsea interest
According to World Soccer (h/t Football.london) , Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho does not appear to be keen on joining Chelsea anytime soon.
The Brazilian magician has struggled to make an impression at Barcelona since moving to the Nou Camp in 2018. This has seen his future at the club getting called into question. (h/t Football.london)
This has seen him linked with a move to clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Juventus. He also made a strong case for himself after a decent spell out on loan at Bayern Munich last season. (h/t Football.london)
Now back at the Nou Camp, Coutinho has played down chances of him leaving the Catalan giants. He has so far scored two goals while assisting another two in just eight appearances. (h/t Transfermarkt)
While the 28-year-old remains focussed on succeeding at Barcelona, he has refused to rule out a future switch to England. (h/t Football.london)
“It is impossible to say what might or might not happen in the future – but what I know is that right now my only focus is on being successful with Barcelona.”
Coutinho is well acquainted with the English game after having spent five years at Liverpool. It was during this time that he emerged as one of the best creative forces in world football.
While things may not have worked out for him at Barcelona, at 28, he still has years left in his locker.
Thanks but no thanks!
Chelsea have recruited well in the summer and have a strong squad at their disposal. While Coutinho will add more options on paper, it needs to be asked if he is truly needed.
The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz are still to hit top gear and are viable options for years to come. While we may have been interested in him, it is possible that the ship has already set sail. (h/t Football.london)
Signing Coutinho will be more of a luxury rather than a necessity. It is something we can do without.
