Chelsea ready to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga in the January transfer window
According to Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano vis Sport Witness (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are ready to part ways with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the January transfer window.
The Spaniard has failed to live up to the reputation as the world’s most expensive keeper. A slew of errors saw his place in the team come into question last season.
Having failed to improve this time around, the club made the decision to bring in Rennes stopper Edouard Mendy.
The Senegalese international has hit the ground running and is now the first choice goalkeeper at the club.
Kepa appears to have come to terms with the current pecking order at the club. According to the report, he believes leaving Chelsea in January could help him garner the game time he seeks.
It was reported earlier that the Spaniard was ready to take a pay cut in order to complete a switch.
Kepa’s struggles have seen him drop down the pecking order even at the international level. Both David de Gea and Unai Simon are now ahead of him in the Spain pecking order. (h/t The Sun)
Kepa acknowledges he must be playing first-team football to stand any hope of making it to Spain’s Euro 2020 squad. He dreams of playing in Spain’s group game against Slovakia at the home of former club Athletic Bilbao in June. (h/t The Sun)
This dream could remain unfulfilled if he continues to languish on the Chelsea bench.

Kepa’s time at Chelsea appears to be coming to an end. While he may have spoken of staying and fighting for his spot, Mendy does not appear any closer to relinquishing his spot.
With the Euros nearing, a move away, even if it is on loan, could be the best solution for Kepa.
