Frank Lampard reveals Petr Cech gave advice on Edouard Mendy transfer
In a recent interview with Norwegian station TV2 via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that former teammate and club legend Petr Cech gave him advice on signing Edouard Mendy.
The 28-year-old Mendy arrived at Chelsea from French Ligue 1 club Rennes in the summer transfer window. Since joining the club, the Senegalese international has made a huge impression, taking over as the first-choice goalkeeper from the error-prone Kepa Arrizabalaga.
And now, Lampard has admitted that Cech played a key role in Chelsea recruiting Mendy from the Ligue 1. (h/t Mirror)
“I trust him [Cech] when it comes to players in that position. I am very pleased. We have studied him carefully and Cech felt he had great qualities.”
It’d be safe to say that Mendy, so far, has well and truly justified the faith shown in him Cech.
Since joining the club, the 28-year-old Senegalese international has made nine appearances across all competitions, managing as many as seven clean sheets, while conceding just two. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Mendy’s arrival, coupled with that of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma’s upturn in form has led to us forming a solid defensive unit.
