Former Chelsea star believes new duo can propel the club to great heights

Cesc Fabregas backs Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to amplify Chelsea strength

According to 90min (h/t The Sun), former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has backed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to propel the club to new heights.

Both players have been instrumental in getting our season back on track after a tricky opening period. Signed over the summer, the duo appears to be right at home at the Bridge.

Werner was impressive from the start but struggled to score in his first few outings. Ziyech, meanwhile, only returned to action last month after sustaining an injury in pre-season.

Both players have since been at their best as they contribute much to our free-flowing attack.

Werner has already scored 8 goals and is currently our top scorer this season. Ziyech is currently on two and has also contributed to three assists in just seven games. (h/t BBC)

Fabregas believes it was the Moroccan’s creativity that the club sorely lacked last season.

“With Ziyech, you can see that he has this last pass and it’s not only that he sees it, it’s that he makes it right and at the right time.”

Combining Ziyech’s vision with the movement of Werner makes our attack a difficult proposition to deal with.

The pacy German doesn’t just have excellent movement but is also a clinical finisher. Opposition defenders will always have to be on their toes to stop the Blues ace.

“You have someone like Timo Werner making great runs in behind and I think this is where Chelsea could be so powerful this year.”

Ziyech and Werner are both excellent players in their own right. Combine them and they are better than the sum of their parts.

They still have much to improve and could prove to be a dynamic duo in the coming months.
