UEFA bans Chelsea starlet for two matches for abusive language

Chelsea ace Reece James receives two-match suspension by UEFA

According to The Mirror, UEFA has branded Chelsea ace Reece James with a two-match ban.

Thankfully for us, this comes in his line of national duty rather than the club. James was sent off after full-time in England’s Nations League defeat to Denmark last month.

UEFA chiefs came to the conclusion that the youngster used “abusive language” at Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

Meanwhile, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire, who was also sent off in the match for picking up two yellows, will serve a one-match ban.

However, Reece James has been named in the England squad for the international games this month.

It doesn’t make sense for Southgate to have added him given he will play no part in both the Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Iceland.

A stacked deck

James is amongst the gifted full-backs the Three Lions can call upon. Along with the likes of Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Blues star presents a fountain of riches at right-back.

It is a testament to James’ ability that he is in consideration at such an age, given the competition.

At the very least, the suspension will see him get some rest during the international break, given he could only play the friendly game and not the Nations League clashes. With a heavy schedule to negotiate, the Blues can welcome back a fresher James.
