“Absolutely magnificent” – Cech reveals this Chelsea star’s reaction to new arrival at the club

Petr Cech reveals how Kepa Arrizabalaga reacted to Chelsea signing Edouard Mendy

According to the Times, Chelsea legend Petr Cech has revealed how Kepa Arrizabalaga reacted to the signing of Edouard Mendy.

The Spaniard’s poor form last season has continued this campaign as well. With it leaving us defensively open at the back, the Blues moved to bring in a new keeper.

Senegalese international Edouard Mendy was the man who followed in Cech’s footsteps and swapped Rennes for Stamford Bridge.

Mendy has quickly replaced Kepa as the number one goalkeeper at the club. Having kept five clean sheets in his first six games, he has all but cemented his position for the time being.

Despite the newfound competition, Cech revealed that Kepa has taken it in his stride. He praised the Spaniard’s response to the transfer and admits that it has been ‘absolutely magnificent’.

It augurs well for us going forward. While competition is healthy, it must not violate the spirit in the squad.

If Kepa takes the challenge as a prerogative to up his game, it will benefit everyone involved. While that could see him stake a claim to get his position back, it can also help attract potential suitors from elsewhere.

Cech believes Mendy is a complete keeper with a myriad of traits that can help our cause. Having recommended him to the club, it is fair to say that the Czech veteran’s suggestion has so far paid off.
