Chelsea keen on Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic
According to Swedish publication Expressen (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are keeping tabs on Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at the Swedish giants before moving to Nottingham Forest in 2016. In his three years at the Tricky Trees, Anel made just one senior appearance.
He eventually returned to Malmo in 2019 and immediately left on loan to Hobro IK. It is here that the 21-year-old showcased his talents.
According to the report, Chelsea have been tipped to make £7.2m for the player’s services.
With almost 3 years remaining on his current Malmo deal, the Swedish giants have the upper hand in negotiations and can hold out for a higher fee. How high Chelsea are willing to go remains to be seen.
Ahmedhodzic has continued to develop into a key player at Malmo this season. The defender started all but one game for the club and bagged two goals in the process.
The Blues made a number of impressive defensive additions this summer. The likes of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy have all played key roles in the improved defensive showings in recent weeks.
Chelsea made two centre-back signings this summer. While Silva is reaching the end of his career, Malang Sarr is the promise for a promising future.
Anel could soon join our ranks as yet another promising center-back for the future. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
