Kepa Arrizabalaga urged to leave Chelsea in January
Speaking to Onda Cero (h/t Football.london), Spanish journalist Miguel Venegas has urged out-of-favour Chelsea star Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave the club in January.
The 26-year-old has failed to cement himself as Stamford Bridge since his move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
This saw him have a terrible season last time around. It ended with him being replaced by reserve keeper Willy Caballero towards the end of the campaign.
It is fair to say that the current season has been any better. Mistakes against Brighton and Liverpool were the last nails in the coffin.
With new signing Edouard Mendy impressing, Kepa has a fight on his hands to retain his role as the first choice. Given his form of late, it is fair to say that the Senegalese star has the edge.
Venegas too has come to the same conclusion. He believes Mendy’s form has all but ousted Kepa from Chelsea’s plans. He has advised the Spaniard to seek a fresh start elsewhere.
“It’s logical that he won’t end up on the bench so I suppose he’ll have to look for a way out.”
Kepa is on his day an excellent keeper. It just so happens that he is extremely inconsistent. As he is now, he is more of a liability to Chelsea than an asset.
With Mendy holding the fort, the Blues may not miss Kepa if they were to lose him. With every passing day, it appears as if a parting is the best for all parties involved.

Chelsea have shown defensive solidity in recent matches. With Kepa playing no part in it, the Blues would not be missing out on much.
While Kepa may not have a great role to play at Stamford Bridge, he could have a great career elsewhere. What happens remains to be seen.
