According to German publication Bild (h/t Metro), Bayern Munich chief Hasan Salihamidzic has opened up on their failed pursuit of Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The European champions were keen to sign the 19-year-old Blues star this summer. However, Chelsea’s excessive demands meant that the deal did not go through.
Bayern were in the market for attacking reinforcements. They bid to take the player on loan with a £70million option to buy and this was duly rejected by Chelsea.
“There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: “We have to leave this immediately.”
Salihamidzic confirmed that negotiations with Chelsea got nowhere and an agreement could not be found.
“We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.”
Interest in the player was confirmed by Die Roten boss Hansi Flick. He has called the Chelsea man as one of the best young players in the position.
Bayern were also keen on signing Hudson-Odoi in the summer of 2019. However, a move did not materialise back then, following which the winger signed a new contract with Chelsea. (h/t Football.london)
He came off the bench earlier this season and helped us salvage a draw at West Brom. The 19-year-old was rewarded with a starting position in our 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.
It remains to be seen if Frank Lampard will persist with him against Southampton this weekend.
Blues manager Frank Lampard insists that the 19-year-old has a huge role to play this season. Hopefully, Hudson-Odoi lives up to the promise he has shown so far in his career.
