Chelsea retain interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma
According to Calciomercato (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea are still interested in AC Milan shotstopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian international is amongst the best young goalkeepers in the game today. Despite his young age, Donnarumma has made an impressive 210 appearances for the Rossoneri. He has kept an impressive 77 clean sheets during this time.
The Blues had been linked with a move for the 21-year-old before they landed Edouard Mendy. It would appear that the interest has not waned.
According to the report, Chelsea could move to sign him next summer once his contract expires at the San Siro.
The Blues have made a number of smart buys this summer. It has massively strengthened our squad and has also given us the ammo to build a championship winning core for the future.
However, landing a player of Donnarumma’s talents for free would be a masterstroke.
Mendy has enjoyed a steady if unspectacular start at Chelsea. The Senegalese international was also privy to our first clean sheet in the Premier League this season.
Unfortunately, an injury while on national duty has seen him get replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal. The Spaniard was once more at the heart of controversy as the Blues dropped two points against Southampton.
If anything, it has strengthened Mendy’s hold on the number one spot.

Donnarumma is an excellent keeper who has garnered great experience for his age. He can only get better with time and could be at the club for a long time if everything works out.
