Transfer News: Chelsea unwilling to sell out-of-favour star to Tottenham

Chelsea reluctant to sell Antonio Rudiger to Tottenham Hotspur

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are reluctant to sell Antonio Rudiger to arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The German international has been given the short end of the stick after a summer of massive recruitment at the Bridge.

Rudiger is yet to feature for the club and appears to be out of favour. The best he has managed so far is to make the substitutes bench in our season opener against Brighton and Hove Albion.

While he was regularly used when available last season, Rudiger’s performances have not been consistent. While it is not just on him, the German too has to share the blame for what was a woeful defence.

Chelsea are ready to loan out the player, with a number of clubs keen. While Rudiger is keen to join Tottenham, the Blues are reluctant to sanction the move.

A major reason for the club’s stance is due to the worsening relations between both sides in recent years. Given that both sides are set to fight for a top four spot, Chelsea’s stance is understandable.

Currently managed by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, Tottenham have enjoyed an excellent transfer window. They now have both ability and strength in depth to possess a challenge.

The prospect of strengthening them further is something we should look to avoid. As seen last season, the race for the top four can be decided by the smallest of margins.
