Newly-promoted PL side keen on signing out-of-favour Chelsea star

West Bromwich Albion keen on Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi

According to Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Mail), West Bromwich Albion are interested in Chelsea outcast Michy Batshuayi.

The Baggies are keen on adding to their squad after gaining promotion to the English top-flight last season.

Manager Slaven Bilic is keen on recruiting a striker and has earmarked Batshuayi as a potential target. The Baggies have since made an approach to take the Belgian international on loan.

The 26-year-old has seen his standing in the Chelsea pecking order drop in the second half of last season. He started off as the club’s second-choice striker behind Tammy Abraham last summer.

Olivier Giroud’s purple patch saw Batshuayi saw him slip to behind both Abraham and Olivier as the campaign came to a close.

In fact, the Belgian has not featured for Chelsea since the restart. His last appearance for the club was against Bournemouth in February.

With Timo Werner also signing for the club, Batshuayi will be hard-pressed to feature for the Blues next season.

According to the report, Frank Lampard is keen to offload the Belgian permanently. However, they could also assent to a loan deal. The 26-year-old joined Chelsea in 2016. He has however failed to meet the required levels and has spent three spells out on loan.

Batshuayi scored six goals and assisted two more in 23 appearances last season. While his numbers may not seem terrible, his performances leave much to be desired.
