New Chelsea star plays down injury fears ahead of crunch Liverpool clash

Timo Werner plays down fears that he might miss Liverpool clash

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Chelsea star Timo Werner has allayed fears that he will miss the club’s first home game of the season against Liverpool.

The German ace made his Blues debut yesterday in our 3-1 away win at Brighton and Hove Albion. Goals from Jorginho, Reece James, and Kurt Zouma ensured we started off our season with all three points.

Although he did not score on the night, Werner’s pace and movement was a constant thorn in the Seagulls backline. It was in fact the German who won us the penalty for Jorginho’s opener. He put in a fine showing and looks ready to take the league by storm.

Chelsea signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig

The 24-year-old picked up a slight knock and was seen sporting an ice pack to his right leg. This led to concerns regarding his availability for the blockbuster clash against Liverpool this Saturday.

Werner confirmed that the knock was a result of the foul that saw him win the penalty. He also went on to add that the impact prevented him from playing at his best for the rest of the game.

If that was what a half-fit striker can do, we cannot wait to see what he can achieve when he is fully fit. Werner replied in no uncertain terms that he will be fit to face the Reds.

“Of course. In games like this, you’re always fit.”

The stage is set

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard also expressed his hope that the striker will be fit to face the defending champions.

“I’d think it was a dead leg, we’ve got a bit of time for him to get right.”

Werner appeared to be on his way to Liverpool before Chelsea swooped in to sign him earlier this summer. He could now be set to make his Stamford Bridge debut and also score his first competitive goal against the Merseysiders.
