Frank Lampard blames Alonso and Silva for the first half fiasco at West Brom

According to The Express, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has pointed fingers at Marcos Alonso, and Thiago Silva were responsible for our first-half capitulation against West Brom.

The Blues went into the match as heavy favourites against the newly-promoted side. However, they were made to pay for their mistakes as the Baggies went in 3-0 up at the break.

Thankfully, the academy lads came to the fore in the second half to rescue us a point. While it has to be seen as two points dropped, the result could have been worse.

Callum Robinson proved to be a thorn in the side of Alonso and Silva. He struck the opener after the former gave away the ball cheaply.

“Mistakes, clear mistakes. The first one, Marcos heads it into the middle of the pitch for them in a transition.”

Silva was fault for the second as Robinson once again punched on a rare mistake to make the score 2-0. The Brazilian who started off the match as the captain endured a difficult debut match in the Premier League season.

“Thiago one is a mistake, he’s been around long enough to know that and we’ll certainly give him that one in his first game.”

Robinson had impressed against us last season. The striker was on loan at Sheffield United and has now developed a habit of scoring against us.

Self-inflicted wounds!

Lampard has said in no uncertain terms that these mistakes gave us a mountain to climb in the second half.

“If you make those mistakes you give yourselves a mountain to climb.”

Coming off the back of a loss to Liverpool, the Blues have taken just four points from the first three games. While the situation is hardly ideal, there is still much to play for.

Lampard’s comments may seem harsh. But it is a valid assessment that those errors could have been avoided.

Silva and Alonso are experienced players who can and should be doing better. Hopefully, the lesson is now learnt.
