Luka Jovic rejected a chance to join Chelsea earlier this summer
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Football.london), Real Madrid ace Luka Jovic passed on the opportunity to join Chelsea earlier this window.
The Blues were one of several clubs keen on the Serbian before we decided to sign Timo Werner.
Apart from us, the likes of Napoli, Monaco, and AC Milan were also interested in signing the striker before he chose to stay at Real Madrid. (h/t The Sun)
The 22-year-old, who joined the Spanish giants last season, has found life in the Spanish capital difficult. He has struggled on the pitch and has scored just twice in 27 appearances last season.
This measly goal contribution of 0.16 per game at Real pales in comparison to the 0.60 per game he achieved at Eintracht Frankfurt.
He has also shown the undesirable trait of being embroiled in controversies off the pitch. He received a telling off from his country’s Prime Minister after he broke lockdown protocols to fly into Serbia for a birthday party.
Bringing in a striker was paramount for the Blues this summer. While Tammy Abraham started last season as the first-choice striker, Olivier Giroud proved his worth towards the end of the season.
With Werner now a Blue, we have a truly world-class striker to lead the line as we aim for the top.

While Jovic is young and has the potential to be a prolific scorer, his off-the-field controversies are something that the club can do without.
Werner is yet to score a competitive goal for Chelsea. However, he has shown enough promise and hunger to show he can be a hit at Stamford Bridge.
We are glad to have got ourselves a player who does his talking on the pitch than off it.
