Fikkayo Tomori could stay at Chelsea amidst interest from rivals
According to the Express, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hinted that Fikayo Tomori could stay at the club this season.
The youngster was touted to secure a loan move away this summer. Interest in him was high with both Everton and Rennes keen.
The Blues boss is, however, keen to keep the 22-year-old at the club. Tomori impressed as a second-half substitute in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss at home to champions Liverpool.
This was Tomori’s first appearance since playing against Bournemouth on 29 February. It is fair to say he did well, even garnering praise from Lampard.
“Tomori did really well and he hasn’t played for a while.”
The Chelsea manager reiterated his trust in the youngster and hopes the performance will have given him much confidence.
“I hope he feels the trust in him. I have got confidence in him.”
According to the report, Tomori is behind Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger in the Chelsea pecking order.
While the former was sent off, the latter did not make the squad. Lampard later admitted that he was unable to make space for the German international. (h/t Daily Mail)
The fact that Tomori got the nod over Rudiger in such a big game could hint at a change in the pecking order at the club.
The youngster did himself no harm with yesterday’s performance though.
