West Bromwich Albion close to landing Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher on loan
According to Sky Sports, West Bromwich Albion are closing in on signing Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher on loan.
The 20-year-old has been at the club since 2008 and has progressed well through the youth ranks. He impressed out on loan last season and is among the club’s best young prospects.
Gallagher joined Championship outfit Charlton Athletic for the first half of the 2019/20 season before moving to Swansea City in January. He played a key role in the Swans’ efforts to gain promotion, reaching the semifinals of the playoffs.
The two spells saw him make 47 appearances in total across all competitions. In these games, the youngster produced an impressive return of 6 goals and 11 assists.
Although he failed to make it to the Premier League with Swansea, it would appears that Gallagher himself will ply his trade in England’s top division next season.
Gallagher will not leave Chelsea until he signs a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is keen for the England U21 international to get more game time and experience in the Premier League. West Brom might be just the team to help him do that.
Gallagher had also garnered interest from Crystal Palace and Leeds United. While Palace signing Michy Bathsuayi on loan rules them out of making a move for the youngster, Leeds do not appear to have pushed on in their efforts to sign him.
Lampard rates Gallagher highly and is not keen to see him leave on a permanent basis. (h/t Daily Mail)
With the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz at the club, Gallagher will be well advised to look elsewhere for regular game time.
