West Ham United keeping tabs on Emerson Palmieri
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, West Ham United are plotting a summer swoop for out of favour Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri this summer.
The 26-year-old Emerson joined Chelsea in January 2018 from Italian outfit AS Roma. However, the defender has never been able to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge.
In his two-and-a-half year stint at Chelsea, Emerson has made 55 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up five more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The seven-time capped Italian international featured just 21 times in the season gone by, with only two Premier League starts coming after the turn of the year. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Following the arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, his first-team opportunities are set to take a further hit. And, Chelsea have been looking to offload the Italian this summer and generate transfer funds.
There has been interest from Italy, with Inter Milan and Napoli believed to be keen. And now, West Ham United have also entered the race to sign the out of favour Chelsea ace. (h/t The Athletic)
Perhaps, the club could use this interest in order to sign Declan Rice from the Hammers. It is no secret that Chelsea are keen on bringing back their former academy man to the Bridge this summer. But, West Ham have been firm on their stance that he is not for sale. (h/t Daily Mail)

But the Hammers’ interest in Emerson could help us negotiate with them over the possible transfer for Rice, while it would also help us bring down the Englishman’s transfer fee as well.
Emerson has never really looked completely settled at the club. And the time is right for Chelsea to show him the exit doors. Whether he will join West Ham though, remains to be seen.
