Transfer Update: PL rivals ready to listen to offers for Chelsea target

Ed Woodward ready to listen to offers for Sergio Romero amidst Chelsea interest

According to The Express, Ed Woodward is open to offers for Manchester United star Sergio Romero amidst interest from Chelsea.

The Argentine shot-stopper is one of the finest reserve goalkeepers in the league. Romero has achieved an impressive 39 clean sheets from 61 games, which is a testament to his quality.

A dependable backup to David de Gea, Romero has had the Spaniard’s back for five years now.

With Dean Henderson now back at Old Trafford, the 33-year-old is at best the third-choice keeper.

Henderson recently signed a new long-term deal and will compete with De Gea for the number one spot next season. This effectively leaves Romero out in the cold.

Romero’s contract will run out next summer. United are desperate to raise funds for Jadon Sancho and are ready to sanction a deal for the Argentine.

Chelsea are among the clubs keen on the Argentine. We will, however, have to contend with competition from Aston Villa.

The Blues are keen to bring in a goalkeeper to compete with the underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard has flattered to impress and was benched towards the end of last season.

The 33-year-old is keen to make the Argentina squad for the 2021 Copa America. He has not represented the South American giants since 2018 and sitting on the bench at United will not boost his hopes. (h/t MEN)
