Chelsea have ended their interest in Lille shot-stopper Mike Maignan
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have ended their interest in securing Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The Blues are in the market for a new goalkeeper following the unconvincing performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Manager Frank Lampard had earmarked the Frenchman as an option alongside Jan Oblak and Edouard Mendy. (h/t Daily Star)
Lille, however, remained adamant and refused to compromise on their £32m asking price. The Blues were only willing to bid £10m and have since pulled out of the deal. (h/t Daily Star)
Chelsea have now turned their attention elsewhere, with Rennes star Edouard Mendy the current focus of attention.
According to the report, the breakdown in the deal has left Maignan angry. The 25-year-old was keen to move to Stamford Bridge but that ship now looks to have sailed.
Chelsea believes Mendy can be attained for around the same fee they were willing to pay for Maignan. Blues technical director Petr Cech shares a close relationship with the French side and is hopeful that a deal can be agreed on. (h/t Daily Star)
The Blues have enjoyed a stellar summer window, land six players so far. Of these, four players namely Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are all expected to play a key role next season.
Adding Mendy to that mix will see the club’s summer spending near the £250m mark.
