“I hope that it works again”-Chelsea star hopes to repeat Werner magic in yet another summer move

Antonio Rudiger played a key background role in luring Kai Havertz to Chelsea

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger is keen to convince Kai Havertz in making the move to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old is closing in on joining the Blues in a club-record deal worth £90m. If it comes to fruition, Rudiger must get some share of the credit for convincing his international teammate.

It is not the first time that he has helped swing a transfer in our favour. The defender took the initiative as Chelsea beat off competition to sign RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner.

“Everything went well with Timo Werner, so I made my contribution.”

With his attempts at convincing Werner having succeeded, Rudiger is hopeful of striking gold once again with Havertz.

“I hope that it works again now.”

Rudiger will get another opportunity to talk to Havertz when the duo meets up for international duty. The Germans are preparing for their Nations League clashes against Spain and Switzerland.

With Werner also set to attend the camp, Rudiger will have a backup in selling Frank Lampard’s project.

According to German publication Bild (h/t Daily Mail), the Bayer Leverkusen star has passed his Chelsea medical ahead of a move to the Stamford Bridge.

Once completed, Havertz will become Chelsea’s fifth major signing of the summer. The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, and Thiago Silva.

Rudiger had a difficult 2019/20 campaign at Chelsea. He struggled with both injuries and form as the Chelsea backline struggled throughout the campaign.

He has now proven his worth off the pitch leading up to the new season. Hopefully, it will also translate onto the field as Chelsea near their season opener away to Brighton.
