Edouard Mendy is keen on joining Chelsea
According to Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea target Edouard Mendy is keen on a summer move to Stamford Bridge, but his club, Rennes, are reluctant to sell without a replacement.
The 28-year-old Mendy has been with Rennes for only a year, having signed from fellow French club Stade de Reims last summer in a deal worth £3.6m.
In his first season for Rennes, the Senegalese custodian played a pivotal part as they finished third in Ligue 1 and ended up qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
This has put him on the radars of Chelsea, who are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. (h/t Daily Star)
It is quite understandable that Frank Lampard is looking for a new shot-stopper considering how Kepa Arrizabalaga performed last season.
The world’s most expensive custodian was way too error-prone and unreliable this past campaign, leading to Lampard axing him from the starting XI in favour of an ageing Willy Caballero.
Chelsea have already had a bid rejected for Mendy, but the club remain keen on signing him. In fact, it has been claimed that the Blues have made an improved bid for the Rennes goalkeeper. (h/t Mirror)
And as per the report, the 28-year-old Senegalese international is also intent on securing a switch to Stamford Bridge. (h/t Daily Star)

However, Rennes are reluctant to let go of their No.1 without bringing in a replacement, considering that the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season is already underway. (h/t Daily Star)
Bringing in a goalkeeper would cap off what has been an excellent transfer window for us already. It remains to be seen if we are able to sign Mendy or move for alternate targets.
