Chelsea star nears Stamford Bridge exit after rejecting club’s two-year offer

Willian rejects two-year contract offer from Chelsea

According to the Guardian, Willian is nearing the end of his Chelsea career after rejecting a two-year contract extension.

The Brazilian who joined the Blues in 2013, has been a key player for the club for the last seven years. He has made 339 appearances for Chelsea and has scored 63 goals and 62 assists.

Willian is sticking to his demand for a three-year deal whereas Chelsea are only ready to offer him a two-year extension. Every delay increases the chance of him leaving the club, with arch-rivals Arsenal a possible destination.

The player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian had confirmed that his client has five offers on the table, including two from the Premier League.

According to the report, the chances of him moving to Barcelona are remote despite the Catalans’ interest in him. Willian had earlier opened up on his preference to stay in London. This should work in Arsenal’s favour if Chelsea are unable to convince him to stay.

The 31-year-old may be in his thirties but still packs a punch. He was instrumental in our performances since the restart as Chelsea eventually finished in fourth place.

Frank Lampard is keen to keep hold of the veteran Brazilian despite adding both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to his roster. Willian missed the FA Cup final defeat last Saturday due to an Achilles injury.

The Brazilian had earlier admitted he would like to stay on at Stamford Bridge. The only point of contention appears to be the length of the contract we have offered. However, given that he is already 31, the club’s hesitation is understandable.

A player who has won numerous trophies for the Blues, Willian’s experience is useful for a promising but young Chelsea side. A seasoned professional, the Brazilian brings a lot to the table.

With Pedro and Christian Pulisic both out injured, it remains to be seen if Willian makes his last hurrah in Blue against Bayern Munich.
