The 23-year-old has just returned to Old Trafford after a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United. Henderson made a right impression at Bramall Lane.

His performances in goal have seen him feature amongst the ebst goalkeepers in the league. With David de Gea struggling, Henderson was keen to challenge for the number one spot at United.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his staff believe it is too soon for Henderson to be given the reins. They are in favour of him going out on a temporary basis yet again. (h/t The Mirror)

This is an antithesis to what the youngster wants. He had earlier issued an ultimatum to United to make him the number one at the club or let him leave.

Does an opportunity present itself?

With Solskajer having made his decision, it could have opened up a channel for Chelsea to make their move.

Frank Lampard is on the lookout for a keeper to replace underfire custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga. Henderson has been touted as one of the players on the Blues’ radar.

With United going against Henderson’s wishes, it remains to be seen if he is willing to look elsewhere to make his mark. A proven player at the top level, the 23-year-old can fit right in at Stamford Bridge.

With the 2020-21 season nearing, Chelsea are yet to bring in a new shot-stopper. Adding Henderson on loan might not be the worst idea given the circumstances.

Not only would it be a cheaper option but would also secure our goal for a season. At the same time, the club would not be making a compromise on quality, given the Englishman’s ability.

With the European Championships to be held next summer, Henderson will need to play regularly to stake his claim on the starting spot for England.

With that door appearing closed at United, Chelsea must do all they can to swoop in for him this summer.

Sheffield United are also expected to return for Henderson. However, with them closing in on Aaron Ramsdale, it remains to be seen if they are serious in their interest.
