Chelsea make £18m bid for Ligue 1 star after first offer rejected

Chelsea make £18m bid for Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy

According to Goal (h/t Mirror), Chelsea have made an improved bid for Ligue 1 star Edouard Mendy.

The Rennes goalkeeper played a key role as his team finished third in the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season. This has seen Les Rennais qualify for the UEFA Champions League for next season.

Frank Lampard is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper. Kepa Arrizabalaga has seen himself fall from grace and was replaced by Willy Caballero towards the end of last season.

The Blues have enjoyed an excellent transfer market. While the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have strengthened the attack, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have strengthend our backline.

The report goes on to add that the Blues are ready to send Kepa out on loan. The Spaniard is garnering interest from both Valencia and Sevilla. (h/t Mirror)

Having been signed on as the most expensive goalkeeper in history, Kepa has failed to reach the levels expected of him. With Chelsea now looking at other goalkeepers, it would appear that his stay at the Bridge is to be cut short.
