Corona disaster for Chelsea as 8 players test positive for the virus

Eight Chelsea stars miss training due to Coronavirus

According to The Telegraph, eight Chelsea players have tested positive for coronavirus.

With the new season just three weeks away, the news comes at a bad time for Blues boss Frank Lampard.

As per the report, six players are believed to have contracted the virus. A further two are in quarantine owing to close contact with those affected. The report, however, has refrained from naming those players who have been affected.

Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, and Christian Pulisic have already been confirmed to be in quarantine. The four players had been together while on holiday this month on the Greek island of Mykonos. They had all met up there, as seen in photographs that were made public.

The other four currently in quarantine include are Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Emerson and Michy Batshuayi.

Mount and Abraham were also selected in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark next month. Their involvement is now in doubt.

Players were given advice on where to go on holiday during the break afforded to them this summer. Mykonos was considered a viable option as it was not subject to the 14-day quarantine measures enforced by the EK government.

An error in judgment

It appears to have been an error in judgment considering where we have now ended up. We hope the virus is confined to just these eight players who should be rid of it soon.

Given the impact COVID-19 has had on the world, one cannot afford to be careless. If anything, what happened to the players should behave as a warning to other players, staff and fans included.

Hopefully, we can see them return to action soon and in good health. Chelsea has so far declined to comment on the matter.
